`It`s a dog eat dog world out there!` and without wishing to open old wounds, there is no shortage of dissin` between us artists, artists bicker and argue too much, partly because of the jealousies, insecurities and perceived need to `fight` over the crumbs that seem to be available to people who are pursuing a vocation that doesn`t usually provide the basic resources to live by.
I put it to you all that art is the opposite of music in the way it affects associations, networking, friendship, cooperation, etc.
Artists are usually loners, musicians are usually sociable.
All right now dump all that because all sweeping generalisations are flawed - but on the other hand - isn`t there a strong element of truth in what I have said?
So what are we competing for?
Most of us aren`t expecting or even wanting to become stinking rich by being an artist, we would just like to have the resources to spend a substantial amount of our time doing artwork.

I not only view other artists as competition if fact i hate artists we are a catty and pretentious bunch to say the least anyone who says they dont walk into a gallery or see a cover of an art journal and think they are better had better continue praticing the line .."the special today is.." Gone are the days of cozy theoretical chat over a glass of scotch. without a defined cohesive movement to rally around we are left to fend for ourselves.. if that means i need to step on your fingers to reach an audience.. better move your goddamn fingers ! If you dont think you are better than the next guy or girl.. get out.. and rent a booth at the farmers market to sell your stonewear tchotchkes I eat shitty artists for lunch! simple as that

I have friends and neighbors who are artists, and I usually get along very well with them, they`re my brothers and sisters, we face similar issues, we`re natural allies, even if I don`t like their work very much at first. And after I`ve become friends with them, I usually do come to understand and appreciate their work as well.
Then there`s a class of artists that I idolize. Most of these are either dead or people that I haven`t met. I react to their work and don`t particularly care whether they`re good human beings or not. To me they are Godlike.
I`m tolerant of anyone who has the nerve to stand up on their hind legs and say, "I`m an artist, look at what I`ve made." even if it looks like rubbish to me, I appreciate their courage. I`m never unkind to tyro artists. If someone is a beginner, and sincere, and I can`t think of anything kind to say, I don`t say anything at all.
The class of artists that I actually do dislike, and will make negative comments about, are the succ
