The most important question is that there are no art critics in India. I mean one can really count the number of people in this line, may be 4 or 5 who take this seriously. In a country like India, with 1 billion people and there are only a few who can call themselves art critics. Where are the rest. with the art market booming there should be someone taking this seriously.

well, this is true as well. How many critics actually do what they are suppose to. How many people actually say this artist is crap. and not worth it. There are many artists promoted by galleries and are regarded as great artists because a few people say they are good. I have not heard people saying this guy is a bad artist

The art critics in india could might as well be writing about food or travel, and could do this for life without making a difference. This is because most editors ar publishers dont understand art and never question what any of these critics have writen, or have any interest in art. So we like fools now enjoy the works of artists who have been given great reviews by critics with high standing in our art world who actually get paid do to this. The art news mags have followed the same steps and write so much shit. I have never read an article writen by an art critic actually saying/ writing negative about any artist. Either they will not say or write anything at all or will write all positive. ???

Because there are no real critics to tell artists what shit they are painting this is the reason all our artists have been making such stuff. there needs to be more people taking interest in art

thats un fair. for the first time an art critic has been given importance and is actually making money.you cant say they are at fault. no one use to give them any importance at one time. now that the market is booming, they are making some money as well

you said it. they are doing their bit in the promotion of art not their job which is to speak the truth about what is good or bad. any one can write good things about a famous artist. but how many people actually questioning his/her theories.
i have not seen one
