Is it the name that sells?

By : ashwin_u

There are many things that could drive people to buy art. I guess, other than the fact that there is a lot of money in these circles, people want to be part of something cultured. Lets not forget there is a high in buying the right artist and making money when you sell. In that case it would be the name. Making the right nameis all about geting the maximum reach in the right group of people. But it is not just about name. Some Indian artists are more famous than others but their works dont sell as compared to others. Thus i would say first Talent then name then brand, marketing, ect. Amongst the most important is price. If an artist increases his / her price too soon this might result in a crash of that artists market. as the market might not be ready for that artist to increase their price just yet. This results in paintings by that artist doing poorly at auctions. Artists should always under price their works as compared to the auctions. This is one of the first mistakes an artist makes. Galleries should stop promoting such artists

It is the dealer.

It is the galleries who make artists but then the artists become greedy and try to deal with every gallery and increase supply which results their fall. The most successful artists in india have been the ones who deal with limited galleries. Keep a look out for this fact

a good point the best galleries are the ones who deal in the best artists. and the best artists deal with limited galleries. too much supply kills their market and there is no control on price.

for most of the time it is the awarness created by the gallery that would make an artist a success. this would be directly related to the reach the gallery has. the number of people that the gallery can reach out to.

By : Jal

get serious, it is the talent that makes the artist a success. a gallery can only help the artist reach there.

First of all one should be very cleare about what success is for me. If money, fame and publicity is my success then there are so maney compromises I need to face. If self satisfaction, self respect and commitmet of contribution of my possibilities to art, then I may not have money, fame and publiciy. There are sucessful artists who are not famous and there are famous artists who are not successful as an artist-as we all know. I think it`s just a matter of choice what king of success I am looking for.

succes and un succes ka koi matter nahi..
impotrant is to express trouthfuly.

to my mind in the history of art, sucess comes to those who work, and wait, and not give attention to the hype created by the media, and galleries. Its the artist and artist alone who deserves whatever he gets finally
